For putter geeks such as myself, the only thing better than testing one Cobra putter is testing two Cobra putters. In this case, it’s the new Cobra 3DP Tour Supernova and the MIM Stingray.

Cobra Golf for more than four decades has built a solid reputation for its drivers and irons, but over the past few years the company has made great strides on the putter side. The Cobra putters 3DP Supernova and MIM Stingray each are excellent examples of Cobra’s commitment to its putter business.

The 3DP Tour Supernova ($379) features a 3D printed nylon lattice, 100% Stainless Steel Milled Face, LA Golf’s Descending Loft Technology, and custom weighting, all combined to deliver what Cobra calls “the perfect’’  performance package.

The company will get no argument from me. The putter’s “fangs” frame the ball well, which makes  for easier alignment. Its black/whote/gold color scheme wasn’t bothered by bright sunlight, and its solid sound gave me confidence that I made good contact.

The Supernova is a very responsive putter – even on off-center hits. It seemed all I had to do was get the ball in motion and the putter took control from there. A winner all the way.

MIM Stingray

The MIM Stingray ($279) is a rounded mallet built for players with a neutral path. Made through Metal Injection Molding (MIM) with premium 304 stainless steel, it features a balanced, symmetrical shape with optimized perimeter weighting. The Stingray’s monotone crown, I think, appeals to players who want a simpler look than the Supernova.

I tended to want to “muscle’’ the putter – or grab it with my right hand – which kind of influenced feel and distance control, so the Stingray took some extra time to get used versus the Supernova. The Stingray’s sound is a bit more muted than Supernova, but overall, it’s a solid putter at a good price point.
