The much-rumored split between Tiger Woods and Nike Golf now is official. Woods today made announcement on his social media that he leaving Nike after 27 years.

Woods naturally praised and thanked Nike Chariman Phil Knight for his support and then added: “People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter.’’

Woods wore his Nike TW apparel collection for most his legendary career, and at one time carried clubs with the familiar Nike “Swoosh.’’ He had recently switched from wearing Nike golf shoes to FootJoy shoes.

For its part, Nike, on its Instagram, said: “Tiger, you challenged your competition, stereotypes, conventions, the old school way of thinking. You challenged the entire institution of golf. You challenged us. And most of all, yourself. And for that challenge we’re grateful.”

Nike got out of the equipment business in 2016. With Tiger Woods’ departure, along with that Jason Day, another high-profile Nike staffer, the question now moves to how much Nike will be be involved moving forward.
