The dramatic resurrection of the Tesoro Club in Port St. Lucie, FL,, continues on Feb. 20 when the its Palmer Course hosts the Honda Classic Open Qualifier. The 18-hole stroke play event will bring together 120 of the area’s highest-ranked golfers for the competition, with the low four qualifiers advancing to the 2023 Honda Classic, Feb. 24-27 on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Champion Course at PGA National Resort in nearby Palm Beach, Gardens..

The qualifying event is open to the public, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. Players scheduled to compete include Brandon Hagy, runner-up in the 2021 Honda Classic, 2020 SFPGA Champion Tim Cantwell, and Canadian PGA Professional Ben Silverman.

The Tesoro Club reopened this past November following an extensive renovation to the original Arnole Palmer-designed course and clubhouse. The club was closed abruptly in 2019 by then owner Glenn Straub and acquired by an investor group that includes former New York Giants football star Tucker Frederickson, a long-time reall state developer in South Florida.

Tesoro Club also has a Tom Watson-designed course, which plays into a pine forest, currently is under renovation and scheduled to open in 2024.

With some long carries over wetlands off the tees over – and par-3 holes each playing between 214 yards and 231 yards, the 7,333-yard, par-72 Palmer Course should be a solid test for the Qualifying field, particularly if the wind kicks up from the north.

Tesoro Club this past January hosted the Astara Golf Championship Qualifier for the 2023 PGA Korn Ferry Tour.

“Tesoro Club is honored to host another PGA event for such an incredible organization,” said Head Professional Matt Doyle. “The Astara Qualifier was a resounding success, and we have heard many remarks from players that our course was one of the nicest they’ve been able to play. We’re looking forward to seeing what the best professional golfers in the world have to offer at the Honda Classic, and for all the future events we will have the honor of hosting at Tesoro Club.”

The Tesoro Club (1,500 acres) is now offering compelling new Social and Golf Memberships. Along with the Palmer Course, the club features two clubhouses, nine  Har-Tru tennis courts, 11 pickleball courts, two dining venues, a fitness center, a full-service spa, and a heated swimming pool.

A collection of new luxury homes is available from two of the nation’s top builders – WCI Communities and Toll Brothers – and a premier list of custom home builders.
