Streamsong Resort today revealed that construction on “The Chain’’ golf course will begin in early March, with hopes of a Fall 2023 grand opening. “The Bucket,’’ a two-acre putting course near the Lodge, will follow The Chain timeline.

Streamsong, located in Bowling Green FL., initially announced the routing and name of The Chain one year ago. Since then, the design team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who created the resort’s Red Course, have returned to the approximately 100-acesite on several occasions is taking advantage of the elevation changes, live oak groves, sandscapes and water to create a 3,000-yard, walking layout that includes 19 holes ranging from90 yards to around 275 yards, with a six- and 13-turn loop.

Why “The Chain?’’ Large dragline chain links, similar to those used in the mining process on the Streamsong site, wil mark the beginning and end of each tee box. Specific tee markets and a score relative to par, however, each will be absent, meaning players will be encouraged to tee off on whatever tee box they like on each hole.

Now marking the middle of the site is a 22,000-pound dragline bucket that was installed this past January.

The Chain will be the fourth course at Streamsong, joining the Red, Blue (Tom Doak) and Black (Gil Hanse).

The big question: When is Steamsong and its new owner, KemperSports, coming with another championship course.

“We have to get this built first, then see what impact it’s having and go from there,’’ said Craig Falanga, director of sales and marketing for Streamsong. “There’s been no discussion about another course.’’
