Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa has some outstanding summer deals for those looking to play on a couple of great Pete Dyre-designed courses, including the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course.
Beginning June 1 to Aug. 31, the 66-acre resort in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL., will offer the “Play Like the Pros” packages beginning as low as $583 per person, not including taxes and resort fees. Centerpiece of the packages is a two-night stay that includes one round of play on the Stadium Course – home to the PGA Tour Players Championship – and the Dye’s Valley course, daily breakfast at Vernon’s First Coast Kitchen, $50 resort credit, and a bucket of balls for the Marriott Floating Hole to practice the 17th-hole approach. One-night stay-and-play packages also are available for either course.
Consider that a summer round on the Stadium Course generally is in the $550 range ($225 for Dye’s Valley) and you get the idea of a bargain. Each round (June-August) includes a forecaddie (inclusive of tip), although the forecaddie is optional at Dye’s Valley.
“Our revenue team here at the resort with our major sales team came up with a value that makes it good for the consumer and continues to put people on the golf courses,’’ Resort Director of Sports Ryan Koury told me. “The TPC Stadium Course is most popular, but Dye’s Valley – if it weren’t next to it – would be just as popular.’’
Indeed. Opened in 1987, Dye’s Valley (6,847 yards, par 72 from the tips) features undulated fairways and water on every hole, although water doesn’t really come into play in each hole. Typical of a Dye design, the Valley is a course where a player has to think his or her way round on each shot. It’s a “must play’’ on Florida’s First Coast of Golf.
Regardless of the season (and rates) Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa can book tee times on the Stadium and Dye’s Valley course for up to one year. Resort guests also have access to the Cabana Beach Club, which is located less than two miles away via a free shuttle. Located on a wide stretch of beach, the Cabana Beach Club features two restaurants and a lap pool. Don’t pass on the Sunday Brunch at the Club’s Sea Porch restaurant.
