Cedar Point Club in Suffolk, VA., and the Virginia State Golf Association have announced a five-year partnership beginning in 2026 during which Cedar Point will host several prestigious VSGA events:

  • 81st Captain’s Putter Matches on October 16th-17th, 2026
  • 9th VSGA Parent-Child Championship in August 2026
  • 59th VSGA Junior Girls’ Championship in 2028
  • 83rd VSGA Senior Amateur Championship in 2030

“Cedar Point has been an unwavering supporter and partner of the VSGA for decades. The club has hosted virtually every championship that we offer and we are excited to announce the latest package of events that will take place over the next five years.” said VSGA Executive Director Matt Smiley.

“The competitors in these events will undoubtedly have a great experience at Cedar Point and will love the golf course and facilities. Unquestionably, the hospitality shown by the club’s members and staff is second to none and always creates a welcoming atmosphere.”

First held in 1955, the Captain’s Putter Matches is an annual Ryder Cup-style interstate competition featuring top players from the VSGA and West Virginia Golf Association battling top players from the Carolinas Golf Association over two days of competition, with four-ball and foursome matches on the first day and singles matches on the second. The 2026 competition is scheduled for October 16-17, 2026. Cedar Point will host the competition for the first time.

After a successful first year hosting in 2025, the Parent-Child Championship will make a return trip to Cedar Point in August 2026.  The tournament features a one day two-person captain’s choice competition with a field of 100 parent-child teams of all ages.  The 2025 edition was won by Jason & JJ Robertson shooting a 13-under, 59!

Cedar Point will be hosting the Junior Girls’ Championship for the second time. The club last hosted the event in 1979 as Joni Jordan of Lynchburg won by two strokes over Kathy Ayers of Waynesboro. The Junior Girls’ Championship is a 54-hole stroke play competition featuring a cut after the first two rounds. This event comes with higher stakes versus prior years as it is now an official USGA Exemption Event, meaning the winner will earn automatic entry into that year’s USGA Girls’ Junior Championship.

The Senior Amateur features two rounds of stroke play qualifying with the top 32 players advancing to match play.  This event will be making its second appearance at Cedar Point as Tim Kelley defeated Steve Williams with a birdie on the 19th hole in the final match back in 2012.

“On behalf of all of us at Cedar Point Club, we are humbled that the VSGA continues to hold our club in such high regard” said Cedar Point President & Chairman, Cameron Robinett.  “As a club, our mindset has been consistent for years.  It is a privilege, an honor, and an expectation that we answer when the VSGA comes knocking on our door.  This latest series of events only strengthens that resolve and I am thrilled with the latest evolution of our partnership.”

Overall, Cedar Point has hosted 14 VSGA championships, most recently the Super Senior Stroke Play and Parent-Child championships in 2025. The club has hosted a variety of VSGA championships, including four Amateurs, a Women’s Amateur, a Mid-Amateur, a Junior Stroke Play, a Women’s Stroke Play, and two Four-Ball championships.  Alongside Farmington Country Club, Cedar Point Club is only the second club in state history to host every VSGA major at least once.
