Nine greens sites on the ocean. Five holes with carries over water. Coore and Crenshaw. Saint Lucia. The Caribbean.

“We think we’re on to something special,’’ says Andrew Alkenbrack, COO of Cabot Saint Lucia and highly-anticipated  Point Hardy Hardy Golf Club located on a 375-acre peninsula on the north side of the Caribbean island.

“Something special’’ will officially debut in December. Preview play for members and guests at Point Hardy Golf Club began this past June to not-surprising rave reviews. Construction on a 31,000 square-foot clubhouse, as well as golf cottages and villas, are in the beginning stages.

“We’re knee deep in it now,’’ Alkenbrack told me. “The early feedback has been sensational. We truly believe it’s one of the best golf courses  in the world.’’

At Cabot Saint Lucia (6,661, par 71), Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw have created a course that winds through lush terrain, over rocky tops and along bays and beaches. It’s a shining example of Coore/Crenshaw’s ability to create larger than life layouts (think the Plantation Course at Kapaula) better than any architects working today.

“Everyone talked about the scale of Cabot Cliffs,’’ Alkenbrack said. “This is on a different level. I think that’s what people will remember.

“The elevation changes just make it special. It has it all. Natural beauty, too. Bill Coore once said that this is one of the most visually sunning pieces of properties he’s ever worked with. It’s tough to concentrate on golf.’’

A word of advice: Begin concentrating fron the the first tee, which requires a drive to an upper shelf fairway that overlooks the Caribbean Sea. The final stretch features back-to-back par-threes (the 16th is destined to become one of the most memorable holes on golf)  and concludes with a downhill, reachable par-five  par-five that requires a shot over Donkey Beach.

“What Bill and Ben have created here,’’ Alkenbrack said, “‘is nothing short of exceptional.’’
