Terry Koehler has been a wedge guru for nearly 30 years. Now the founder and chairman of Edison Golf has a design so good he has put his name on it. The Koehler Sole, according to Koehler, is the only design to efficiently combine a high bounce angle in the front of the sole and a low bounce angle in the back of the sole so it can handle any lie and any swing path. It’s so good, Edison Founder Terry Koehler received a patent on it almost 30 years ago.
If your swing is steep or you play in soft conditions, Edison 2.0 wedges will perform like a high-bounce wedge. If your swing is shallow or you play in firmer conditions, Koehler says that same Edison 2.0 wedge will perform like a low-bounce sole design.
The high-bounce leading portion of the sole has been widened slightly, giving players more dig-resistance on those tough lies or steeper swings.
Koehler says he has added a bit more relief to the toe and heel sections of the sole to make this sole design even more versatile.
The Edison 2.0 wedges represent, what Koehler calls “a quantum leap’’ in wedge design, as they are the only wedges on the market specifically designed around a multi-year study of the way recreational golfers hit their wedges, as opposed to being designed only for the extraordinary skills of elite tour players.
“For over 40 years, I have been puzzled as to why golfers are forced to suffer from the inefficiencies of ‘tour design’ wedges,” Koehler says. “Robotic testing consistently proves even the newest iterations of these traditional wedge designs are less forgiving than even a tour blade short iron. Our research reveals that less than 10 percent of golfers consider their wedge play a strength of their games – and the wedges they play are a big reason why.”
Edison 2.0 wedges feature the company’s new ‘pearl chrome’ finish for an upscale and contemporary appearance. The pearl chrome, according to Koehler, combines with glass bead texturing for a soft surface finish and a warmer color than traditional chrome plating to reduce glare from the face at address. The pearl chrome finish is also “slicker” to help channel away moisture from the face when playing in wet conditions.
Edison 2.0 wedges ($199.95 steel and $214.95 graphite) are engineered to odd-number lofts, from 45 to 59 degrees, and are custom built for each golfer from a wide selection of premium shafts and grips.
