Vespera Resort on Pismo Beach, an Autograph Collection Hotel on California’s Central Coast, has promoted Alex Aviles from sous chef to the position of executive chef for its signature restaurant, Pequín Coastal Cocina, and for the overall resort, which sits between Los Angeles an San Francisco..
Aviles will develop menus and oversee all culinary operations for Pequín Coastal Cocina, which features innovative Baja coastal cuisine. The all-day restaurant serves dishes using regionally inspired, market-fresh seaside, farm and ranch ingredients and presents wines and beers produced throughout San Luis Obispo County. Aviles will supervise the outdoor bar, poolside dining, in-room menus and dining, along with all culinary needs for meetings, events and weddings.
“We know how devoted Executive Chef Alex Aviles is to our outstanding culinary program,” said David Moreau, general manager of the oceanfront resort. “His 10-year career in the hospitality industry is a proven record of his management prowess, ability to develop guest-focused menus and his exemplary mentorship and staff training skills.”
Prior to joining Vespera Resort’s culinary crew, Aviles worked as chef de cuisine at Collective Retreats in Wimberly, Texas, and served as a chef instructor at Orange County School of the Arts, in Santa Ana, Calif., for seven years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in culinary management from the Art Institute of Orange County, Calif., in 2013.
Vespera Resort on Pismo Beach, which opened in late 2019, is located along the city’s boardwalk and within walking distance to downtown Pismo Beach. The resort offers 124 appointed guestrooms, most with private balconies overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Vespera Resort can accommodate events including business meetings and weddings. The resort features a fitness facility, onsite pool and lawn with firepits overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
