Every once in a while, you find a restaurant that you can truly call one of your “favorites.’’ In this case, meet Jarana Aventura, the 7,000 square-foot restaurant located in the Esplanade dining area of the upscale Aventura Mall in North Miami. Jarana, which means “spontaneous celebration,’’ for the past year has delivered the flavors (and colors) of Peru to guests in a relaxed, unhurried setting.
“When the Esplanade first opened, there weren’t many restaurants yet, and diners were still figuring out where to go,’’ said Timothy Sandoz, director of operations for Acurio International, acclaimed Chef Gastón Acurio’s company that oversees the design, development, and management of multiple restaurant concepts, including Jarana.
“Once they stepped into Jarana, they discovered something different – authentic Peruvian flavors, a lively atmosphere, and a concept they might not have tried otherwise. The best part? They left happy and kept coming back. Now, a year in, we’ve built a strong base of regulars who’ve made Jarana part of their dining routine.’’

Executive Chef Martha Palacios (Jarana)
The Esplanade brings together diverse cultures and flavors through a variety of eateries, which makes it a perfect fit for Jarana.
“As a restaurant that celebrates authentic Peruvian cuisine, we complement the eclectic mix of culinary experiences in the area,’’ Sandoz told me. “Our menu offers a rich taste of Peru’s traditions while embracing the spirit of a dynamic and multicultural dining scene. It’s a place where guests from all backgrounds can come together and enjoy the bold, diverse flavors that make Peruvian food so special.
To help show off those flavor, Jarana Aventura on March 22 will continue its one-year anniversary celebration, as its terrific executive chef, Martha Palacios, will collaborate with Maty’s (Miami) Chef Valerie Chang – winner of the 2024 James Beard Award for Best Chef South – on a one-of-a-kind Peruvian menu.
“We strive to keep the Jarana experience consistent across all our restaurants, ensuring that every location tells the same story—one that celebrates our proud Peruvian heritage and culture. Our menu reflects the flavors and traditions we want to showcase, staying true to the essence of what makes Jarana special. At Jarana, freshness and authenticity are at the heart of everything we serve.’’

Cebiche (Jarana)
Some of Jarana’s standout dishes include Lomo Saltado, prepared in the most traditional way to honor its authentic flavors. Its Cebiches, each made with fresh ingredients, might be the best in South Florida. Don’t pass on the Anticuchos, which are grilled over a Josper grill, infusing the skewers with a rich, smoky charcoal flavor that takes this classic dish to the next level.
“At Jarana, we’re not just serving food – we’re bringing the heart and soul of Peru to the table,’’ Sandoz said. “What sets us apart is our commitment to showcasing Peruvian flavors and culture in every bite, every sip, and every experience.
“Martha Palacios, has spent her career alongside Gastón Acurio, perfecting her craft in kitchens across Peru, Japan, and now the U.S. Her passion for Peruvian cuisine shines through in a menu that celebrates the country’s rich culinary diversity. From Nikkei (Peruvian-Japanese) and Chifa (Peruvian-Chinese) to Italian influences and the bold, comforting flavors of Criollo cuisine, our dishes reflect the many cultures that have shaped Peru’s food scene.’’
