Dave Harner has two lives. Most people would pay a nice price to have one of them. By day, Harner has been the director of golf operations at fabled French Lick Resort since 1976. By night, Harner plays guitar in a country/rock band that features his 86-year-old mother, Sue, on piano. The five-member band is called, “Last Call.’’

“I tell everyone that it’s not so much about alcohol, as it is about being so old that we don’t when the call might be,’’ Harner told me in his signature Southern Indiana baritone. “My mom is pretty good – plays in the Jerry Lee Lewis style.’’

Momma Sue wears a walking boot to get around these days, her son said, ‘but put her behind the keyboard and she goes.’’

The Killer would be proud.

For hs part, Harner plays lead guitar with a custom-made Fender Telecaster.

“A guy over in Paola (IN) made it for me,’’ said Harner, who has played guitar since the age of 13 .“It weighs only four pounds. Most Telecasters weigh 10 pounds.’’

Haner smiled. “So, I can play it a while.’’
