Dismal River Club in Mullen, Neb., has new ownership. The high-end club today announced DRC Investors, LLC. as its new ower, marking a new chapter in its the storied history. Under new ownership, the club is set to bolster its reputation as one of the Midwest’s most esteemed private clubs and further enrich the member and guest experience through a dedication to delivering service and exclusive offerings.
KemperSports will remain as manager of club operations at Dismal River Club, one of the properties that heped spur the popularity of golf courses in the Nebraska sand hills.
“I am super excited to embark on this new journey to put Dismal River in a class of its own,” said Alan Erickson, president of the DRC Investors Board of Directors. “Our goal will be to begin a new chapter at Dismal River and carry out our mission of creating a memorable and unique experience for our members and guests in this serene and remote location.”

Nestled among the Sandhills of western Nebraska, Dismal River has been a magnet for golf enthusiasts globally since its Jack Nicklaus-designed White Course debuted in 2006. The Red Course, a creation of Tom Doak, followed in 2013, garnering widespread acclaim. Under DRC Investors leadership, the club is set to continue its trajectory of growth that already boasts 80 rooms, 17 guided hunting and fishing experiences, a variety of outdoor activities such as horseback riding, kayaking, and mountain biking, rustic lodging amenities and multiple dining options.
Further enhancing the club’s offerings, Dismal River is set to introduce an additional 20 rooms housed in luxurious four-bedroom cabins later this year as a complement to the existing accommodations.
The White Course features offers elevated championship tees with magnificent views in every direction and plays over 7,300 yards from the tips. The Red Course was “discovered” and designed by Doak and his team at Renaissance Golf Design. The 18th hole delivers breathtaking vistas of the clubhouse, cabins and 400-foot sand dunes overlooking the river itself.
