Acurio International announced today that La Mar by Gastón Acurio, the award-winning Peruvian restaurant, is relocating to a new address in Brickell in 2025. Construction is now underway at the new space located at 1451 South Miami Avenue, just one mile from the restaurant’s current location at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami, where it opened to rave reviews in 2014.
The move represents a new era for La Mar Miami, which will continue highlighting the flavors of Peru’s iconic dishes and biodiverse ingredients while showcasing a more modern space with architecture and interiors by internationally renowned studio DesignAgency.
“It has been an incredible 10-plus years at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami, and now we are embracing the opportunity to refresh our look and further finesse the La Mar experience,” said Gastón Acurio. “While our new home will have the same feel and soul as the original, we a’re excited to introduce a more modern take on our vision, where every dish, drink and design element is elevated to the next iteration of La Mar.”
The La Mar menu features traditional Peruvian dishes, including fresh cebiches, grilled anticuchos and entrees highlighting Peru’s unique and biodiverse ingredients, as well as local Florida bounty. Acurio’s leadership has made the restaurants a must-visit destination for the past decade, continuing to push for excellence as recognized by the Florida MICHELIN guide and the coveted World’s 50 Best Discovery reference tool. Founded by acclaimed Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio, La Mar originally opened in Lima in 2005 and has since expanded throughout South America and globally in markets including San Francisco, Miami, Doha, Dubai, Bellevue, WA., and in early 2025, in Madrid.
Chef Diego Oka, a part of the opening team at the Lima location, made it his mission to bring the cuisine of his native country and the traditions of excellence and quality from the flagship location to the world – first Mexico City; then Bogota, Colombia; later San Francisco, CA., and ultimately Miami.
A recent testament to the chefs’ shared vision, Chef Acurio, alongside Chef Oka and other talented La Mar executive chefs, led a sold-out dinner at Platform by the James Beard Foundation in New York City celebrating the authentic and culturally diverse flavors of Peruvian gastronomy.
