KemperSports continues to evolve as one of the more diverse golf and sports management companies in the U.S. The Northbrook, Ill., company that was founded in 1978 with the opening of Kemper Lakes Golf Course in Kildeer, Ill., now consists of five divisions – the latest being KemperSports LIVE, which focuses on growing the company’s iportfolio of owned and managed sports events and activations, as well as event experiences, and expanding its sponsorship consultancy.
The other divisions within KemperSports are KemperGolf, KemperSports Venues, KemperDestinations, and KemperClubs.
“The business is growing,’’ KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner told me.”We have grown the golf side more aggressively over the past decade or so, but believe we have a lot of opportunities in the live events and sports marketing spaces. People are spending a lot of money on experiences and live events these days. We have a long history of operating live events (beginning in 1978 with the PGA Tour’s Kemper Open), so we’re looking to put more energy and growth into that.’’
TrueDemand, meanwhile, Skinner said, is a management system whereby KemperSports has married various technologies together to better market its price golf tee times at its various courses.
“It’s how we can interact better with our customers,’’ said Skinner, who became KemperSports’ CEO in 2008. “With the increase in demand the industry has seen the past three or four years, there is a lot of opportunity to fll white spce on the tee sheet and do it effectively., and at the same time give more real-time access to our customers to play when they want to play and figure oy what’s best for them. Our focus is on providing a memorable experience so people want to come back for more.’’
