National Tempura Day is coming Jan. 7, 2024. The Japanese mainstay, which originated in 16th century, consists of fresh seafood and vegetables dusted with egg batter then deep fried to golden perfection.

Tempura lovers can celebrate the crispy delicacy at five of my favorite Palm Beach County (FL) hotspots. Here’s a look:

City Oyster

A coastal cuisine gem, City Oyster in Delray Beach has a large dinner menu, including Rock Shrimp Tempura, featuring crispy shrimp, spicy sauce, and drizzled with shiitake and chives. Snag a coveted seat at the bar during their daily Happy Hour from 4-7 p.m., and enjoy 2-for-1 cocktails, beer, and select wine.

Yakitori Sushi House
The essence of Japan comes to life in Delray Beach at Yakitori Sushi House. For National Tempura Day, tuck into the Lobster Bomb Roll, a combination of fresh avocado, asparagus, and tempura lobster tail.

Lemongrass Asian Bistro

Lemongrass’s unique and innovative approach to Asian cuisine is reflected in their intricate sushi rolls. Try the JB Tempura Roll, a fan favorite featuring an inside-out roll loaded with salmon, cream cheese, and scallions, then deep-fried, yielding the perfect crust.

Lemongrass Asian Bistro is located at The Mall at Wellington Green at 10312 Forest Hill Blvd.

Saiko-I

Indulge in fine, authentic sushi, seafood, hibachi, and more at Saiko-i. The Kitchen Entrées menu touts a Sweet & Sour Chicken, which is served with tempura fried chicken, pomegranate, bell peppers, fresh pineapple, and a secret sweet and sour sauce.

Sushi by Boū

Celebrity chef David Bouhadana elevates the omakase experience at Sushi by Boū in Boca Raton. The restaurant recently unveiled a decadent plein air menu loaded with shareable plates like Takoyaki, golden fried Japanese octopus bites topped with bonito flakes and kewpie mayo.
